Occupy Founders Launch The After Party in Detroit

Print Friendly

Some of the founding members of the occupy movement are launching a new political party – THE AFTER Party.

Carl Gibson is among them.

He says, “What sets The After Party apart is that 365 days out of the year it is a humanitarian organization. The way we organize politically, what sets us apart is that we are finding needs within the community, and then working to meet them using the community’s assets.”

And, so is Radio Rahim, another After Party founding member and, yes the real life persona behind the character in Spike Lee’s Do The Right Thing says the following:

“There is a little bit of Radio Rahim in everybody (…) we all love our music and we have outrage about different things.”

How will After Party be different than other 3rd party alternatives?

Why start a political party at all?

And should Mookie have thrown that garbage can through the window of Sal’s Pizzeria?

All of those questions asked and answered this week on Acronym TV. What do you stand for?

Carl Gibson had my interest up until the Jesus talk. I know the religious right has people in politics totally cowed. If a candidate doesn’t loudly and frequently profess their belief in christianity, they virtually are unelectable. It is part of the problem with our culture right now. We have an informal, de-facto religious requirement to run for office. That the After Party would jump on the band wagon of pandering to the religious right before it even starts does little to recommend it to me.

And, Carl, you really need to read the bible. Jesus was not the great humanitarian you think. Read Matthew 10:35, Luke 14:26, and lets not forget that mass of bad advice in the sermon on the mount. There are many more examples that, for the sake of brevity, I will not cite. Read the bible for yourself and find out.

I’ll stick with the Greens or Socialists. So far they have no hidden religious requirements. However, if the Green Shadow Government fields a party, I’m definitely interested.
